Scoliosis is defined as a lateral curvature of the spine, but, the lateral curvature is always complicated by a rotational deformity. This is transmitted to the thoracic region and ribs and causes asymmetry of the thorax. Although it does not cause any pain, it is an embarrassing disorder, especially for children. Types of Scoliosis

  • Idiopathic Scoliosis
This is the most common form of scoliosis, and next to the paralytic form, is responsible for the most severe curves. As the name suggests, the cause is not known. It has been attributed to paralysis of the intrinsic muscles of the spine, caused by sub clinical poliomyelitis. Girls are more commonly affected than boys. Complete normality of the rest of the body differentiates it from paralytic and other forms of scoliosis. Signs of Scoliosis are:
