Lyme Disease is an infection caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdoferi (Bb) bacteria. Lyme Disease often starts with flu-like symptoms in its early stage; muscle and joint pain, lymph node swelling, fatigue and nervous system abnormalities.

Causes
Lyme Disease is transmitted by the bite of an infected tick. Ticks that transmit Lyme Disease can retain the infection throughout their life and transmit the infection to subsequent hosts. The bacterium is able to move around the body through the bloodstream and between tissue. It can also invade tissue, replicate, and leave the cell, destroying the cell as it emerges. Signs and Symptoms
Early Stage
The early stage of Lyme Disease is usually marked by one or more of the following symptoms:
