Athlete’s foot affects the area between toes. Tinea pedis is the fungus that causes it. Men and young people are more likely to get it. The fungus grows in warm, moist places like swimming pools and gyms. This fungus is highly contagious, and can be spread by wet floors or touching infected socks or footwear.
The affected areas will be red and scaly. This is a recurring infection that occurs whenever an individual’s immunity system is compromised.
Proper hygiene is the key to treatment, which includes regular foot washing and drying.
Antifungal powders are usually prescribed by doctors to spray on the affected areas. The results are temporary and the infection can recur when the immune system of the individual is compromised.
