Important latest facts about the Corona Virus

The novel coronavirus is a new strain identified in Wuhan China and is named COVID-19 and this is the Corona Virus Strain that is now making the latest news headlines with new startling updates coming out daily. Thus, such information can make it difficult to differentiate facts from fiction and during a viral outbreak pandemic, misinformation can be harmful.

There is no specific treatment yet for Corona Virus. Conventional treatment may include taking a pain or fever medication which may give temporary relief from the symptoms. Some hospitals and doctors treating Corona Virus are using a combination of HIV, Malaria and Dengue drugs and report back that some of their patients have been cured by this combination. Research is still going on to find a natural cure for Corona virus. Doctors from all fields agree that one should boost the immune system to fight against the corona virus naturally.

We have stated a few myths and facts about the novel corona virus and explained why such rumors are misleading.

Myth: Garlic can prevent the virus

Fact: Garlic is good for health, but there is no evidence from the outbreak that eating garlic can protect you from the new coronavirus- Covid-19.

Myth: Taking vitamin C can prevent the virus

Fact: It is also a myth. Yes, vitamin C can boost up your immune system but there is no evidence that it can protect you from the coronavirus. Also, one must consider the source of Vitamin C as most available Vitamin C is ascorbic acid a pool cleaner that doesn’t have the same immune boost properties of food-derived vitamin C we have in our products including Spectrum.

Myth: Putting sesame oil on your body or spraying alcohol or chlorine can kill the virus

Fact:  This is false. If the virus is already in your blood, putting these substances on your skin will not kill it and can cause harm to your skin.

Myth: Face masks can protect you from the virus

Fact: Standard surgical masks do not give protection from the coronavirus because they are not able to block out viral particles and do not lay flush to the face. Infected people should use surgical masks to prevent spreading the virus further by blocking any respiratory droplets that could be expelled into the environment.

Myth: The virus can be killed by heat as the virus doesn’t survive past 27 degrees centigrade

Fact:  If this was true saunas would cure all infected. If this was true Hospitals with people dying simply need to turn up the temperature. This logic leads us to believe that this statement doing the rounds on whatsapp is not true.

Myth: Children cannot get infected

Fact: It is wrong. Anyone of any age can get infected, though older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions are more vulnerable. Children often carry the virus and show fewer symptoms. The elderly are most at risk.

Myth: People who get infected with the coronavirus will die

Fact: It is estimated that the death rate for the coronavirus is around 3 to 4% globally. People who get infected develop mild to moderate upper respiratory tract illnesses. The symptoms may include a runny nose, cough, sore throat fever, headache that can last for a few days. In most cases, the symptoms will go away on their own.  Being Old, Obese or a smoker are huge determinants on whether Corona Virus will kill someone or not. It is essential to stop smoking today Lose weight and to keep your immunity boosted regardless of Age.

Myth: Will warmer weather stop the spread of coronavirus?

Fact:  It is not clear if COVID-19 transmission will be affected by seasonal temperature variation. Warmer weather may reduce the chances of transmission but cannot stop completely because it’s summer in Australia and at least 128 people there have gotten the virus and about three have died.

Myth: Does eating non-vegetarian food like fish, chicken, and meat increase the chances of catching the Corona Virus?

Fact: There is no scientific evidence that eating non-veg food is dangerous or the coronavirus can spread through eating chicken, mutton, and seafood and it is also asserted that the virus could not survive at a higher temperature. Thus, food that is well cooked is safe to eat whether it is veg or non-veg.

The new coronavirus is a respiratory virus that spreads primarily through contact with an infected person through respiratory droplets generated when a person, for example, coughs or sneezes, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose.

Myth : Any lab can diagnose if you have corona virus

Fact : Tests for Corona virus are limited to a few  laboratories that have the kits needed to test for it.

Myth: Corona Virus  is caused by 5g radiation

Fact: No concrete evidence has come out to this effect.

Myth:  Novel Corona Virus  was genetically engineered by crossing HIV with the old Corona’s

Fact: Although possible but there is no concrete evidence supporting this

Myth: Modern medicine will find a cure for Corona shortly

Fact: Modern medicine has been remarkably ineffective with viruses. Modern medicine still cannot cure a common cold, HPV, HIV or Herpes.

Myth:  Anyone with flu-like symptoms should get tested for Corona Virus

Fact: Corona Virus has a unique set of symptoms which include Dry cough, no cold, no nasal discharge along with a very high temperature. If patients have discharge and fever, it’s most likely an influenza flu. If patients have only a dry cough and no fever its most likely allergies. Given the shortage of testing kits, one should not go in for a test unless they qualify their symptoms by a qualified medical practitioner trained in Corona Virus Symptoms.

Myth: Natural and Alternative medicine from the world of TCM, Ayurveda, and Homeopathy can do nothing for Corona Virus.

Fact: Given breakthroughs seen for other viruses including

  • Ayurveda trials for herpes with Hypericum Mysorense
  • TCM trials for HPV with AHCC
  • Homeopathic Trials for Herpes with HSV nosodes

It is just as likely that a cure for Corona may be found with natural medicine as it is that it will be found by modern medicine. We at Biogetica continue to be agnostic to the medicine system and hope a trial showing a cure releases soon. There are already reports of a TCM only hospital treating coronavirus in China with success. The AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) department of the Indian government has also suggested certain herbal and home remedies to boost immunity and viral immunity in light of the fear and panic the Corona Virus has caused globally.

Myth: A coronavirus vaccine will take 5 years minimum

Fact: Many researchers are on the job and a vaccine for Corona Virus may be available in some countries by the year-end.

Myth: Corona Virus is mostly in China and particularly in Wuhan China

Fact: Corona Virus started in Wuhan China. It has since spread across the world. More new cases are coming up in Italy, Spain, and USA daily than in China now as China has taken many measures to control its spread.  Countrywise data for March 17, 2020 is listed below
