How Important is Diet in Alcoholism Recovery
To help an alcoholic recover, it is essential to have a balanced diet. Even if the person hasn’t eaten much or anything at all, drinking can make them feel full. Alcoholics are often malnourished. A healthy eating plan can help you recover. Alcohol addicts are prone to gastric disorders such as diarrhea, hyperacidity, and loss of appetite. There is therefore a need to provide adequate nutrition in order to rebuild tissues and organs, as well as optimize the function of different systems, including the Central Nervous system.
A lack of amino acids such as tyrosine, tryptophan, and other essential amino acids can lead to a decrease in the production of neurotransmitters, like Norepinephrine and Dopamine, which are responsible for mental clarity, alertness, and mental sharpness. It is important to include folic acid, B-complex vitamins, and protein-rich foods. Sugar & caffeine can cause mood swings, so they should be avoided.
