 Alopecia means loss of hair. Usually, it happens in a circumscribed manner, and is restricted to a particular area of the body. The most common area affected is the scalp. This pattern is called Alopecia areata. Hair loss may be temporary or permanent.
Depending on the part of the body involved, it is classified into different types.
By and large, the cause of such hair loss remains obscure.

Types of Alopecia

Diagnosis of Alopecia
Symptoms of hair loss in patches, is usually suggestive of the disorder.

Another way of diagnosing the condition is to gently pull a handful of hair along the edge of the patch. In cases of alopecia, hair will tend to pull out more easily than normal hair.
