Haemorrhoids or 'piles' (also known as emerods), is a fairly common affliction affecting both men and women. About 50% of people in the United States develop hemorrhoids at some point in their life. Hemorrhoids afflict the anal and the lower rectal areas, which are rich in blood supply.
